Why Should You Participate In Our Postbaccalaureate Bridge Programs?

Our programs are built for people who have the passion, desire, and drive to pursue Graduate Education OR Employment in the Chemical or Biochemical Sciences and want training that will give them a competitive edge. Specifically, our programs are intentionally designed for people whose participation in critical training opportunities has been limited by resources and/or life circumstances. If you need access to well-compensated training opportunities in a safe, culturally responsive community-centered environment, then you are in the right place!

Our programs will give you unparalleled opportunities to:

  • Gain a year and a half of full-time, hands-on research or laboratory training
  • Work with principal investigators working on cutting edge research in academic research laboratories, national or government laboratories, or chemical/biochemical industry.
  • Take upper-division undergraduate coursework to improve your scope of knowledge in your potential research areas or improve your academic records
  • Engage in tailored coursework providing the tools to navigate the invisible curriculum of graduate school or the real-world practices of the workplace
  • Benefit from extensive mentorship from trained mentors dedicated to your individual success
  • Polish your presentation skills in regularly scheduled regional poster sessions with peers
  • Build an extensive network of connections to scientists and researchers at our partner institutions.

Overview of Our Postbaccalaureate Bridge Program Options

Both postbaccalaureate programs are credentialed certificate programs for students from underrepresented/minoritized (URM) groups in chemistry and biochemistry. Each program spans two full years (academic year + summers). In the first academic year, students engage in coursework at MSU Denver that prepares them for the Immersive Research/Laboratory Internship, which comprises the remainder of the programs. During the Immersive Research/Laboratory Internship, students gain invaluable hands-on experience working on-site in laboratories at our partner institutions. Each program culminates in a capstone experience that will help launch students to the next phase in their education or career in the chemical/biochemical sciences.
